Direct Support Provider

Qualifications

  1. The DSP shall have:

  1. The skill, training, or education necessary to:

i. Establish and maintain a constructive and appropriate personal relationship with consumers;

ii. Minimize risks of endangerment to the health, safety, and well-being of consumers;

iii. Perform first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and operate 24-hour Emergency Assistance systems, as appropriate to the need with respect to any specific consumer; and

iv. Achieve the intended results of the service being performed.

b. Current and valid licenses, certificates, or registrations that may be legally required to provide the service.

2. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; coursework in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Education, or related field preferred.

3. Experience: Minimum twelve (12) months of experience working with adults with developmental disabilities or related populations in community-based settings preferred.

4. The ability to perform the functions required in the program design.

5. Ability to provide flexible, person-centered supports that enable consumers to live successfully in homes of their choosing while promoting independence, self-determination, health and safety, and community inclusion.

6. Ability to implement IPP objectives through ongoing collaboration with consumers, families, Regional Center staff, and community partners while maintaining accurate documentation in accordance with Title 17 requirements.


Job Descriptions:

1. Implementing program curricula.

2. Directly delivering individual and group learning experiences to assist each consumer served in obtaining his/her IPP objective(s) for which the vendor is responsible.

3. Maintaining data regarding consumer progress.

4. Participating in consumer assessment, planning and evaluation processes.

5. The DSP must have a valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance

6. Promote consumer rights, dignity, informed choice, and community integration at all times.

7.Follow health and safety protocols, mandated reporting requirements, and agency policies.


Duty statement:
The Supported Living Services (SLS) Instructor is responsible for providing individualized, person-centered supports that assist consumers with developmental disabilities in living successfully in homes of their choosing and participating fully in their communities. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the SLS Instructor supports consumers in areas including community integration, health and safety, household management, financial affairs, transportation, self-advocacy, relationship building, and access to community resources. The SLS Instructor promotes consumer choice, dignity, independence, and self-determination while implementing Individual Program Plan (IPP) objectives, maintaining accurate documentation, collaborating with family members and service providers, and ensuring services are delivered in accordance with Title 17 regulations, Regional Center requirements, and ICARE Support Living Services policies and procedures.
